Taste of Heaven

During the seasons of preparation, there is an invitation to taste special foods. Advent calendars famously offer a sample of cheese or wine or chocolate each day. It is never enough to break a fast; it merely encourages and nourishes the person during their time of retreat. Each day a bite, a sip, a break from the routine, remind the person that there is more than this life. There is God.
God created us in love to love and to be loved. He created us to serve Him and serve each other in joy. Tasting the heavenly banquet day by day isn't just cheese and wine and chocolate, but rather, tasting little acts to kindness. There is an untold sweetness to, "Let me get that for you." A person may sample the sweet bouquet of, "Would you like some? I have plenty." Let us not forget the gentle music of, "Tell me all about it."
“Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do." John 13: 12-15
