When I am at my best, I am generally patient and kind and most of the things St. Paul told the Corinthians love meant. The trouble is that I am rarely at my best. First thing in the morning and the last thing before bed, I am generally at my worst and most of the things the Corinthians were that necessitated a second letter from St. Paul.
The solution to this problem came from an unlikely source. There is a show called Ted Lasso. Ted is a soccer coach who focuses more on building up the men on the team than running drills. One player was having a particularly bad time, and Ted told him that a goldfish is the happiest animal on Earth because it had a 10 second memory. "Be a goldfish."
When the team lost the big game, Ted gathered up the team and told them it was better to be sad together than to be sad alone. After they take time to be sad together, they are going to be goldfish.
They didn't need to hang onto hurts, and neither do I.
Love is patient; love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Cor 13: 4-8
