In Scripture there is a lot of talk about shepherds and sheep. In the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, God Himself says He will shepherd His people because they have no one to take care of them (Ezekiel 34: 16-18). In the Book of Psalms, King David sings praise to God as he says, "The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want..." (Psalm 23). In the Gospels, Jesus tells us that He is the Good Shepherd Who leaves the ninety-nine to rescue the one lost sheep (John 10: 11-16, Matthew 18: 10-14). All in all, there is a lot of concern for the well-being of the people because, they are simple souls, who are easily distracted and easily harmed.
One thing I have noticed is that there is no prayer from the perspective of the sheep who wandered off... until now.
There’s a wide and lonely distance
Separating you and me.
And the fault lies here within me.
That’s so obvious to see.
So, I listen for your voice now.
Won’t you tell me all’s okay?
Take my hand and stay beside me.
Walk together on the way…
Walk together on the way…
