Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

My littles and I have been fighting some sort of a bug that has been going around. It is the kind of bug, where parents warn other parents through texts and emails as they wait for their children to be seen at the doctor's office. One of the over-the-counter medicines I have to manage this monster of a bug is to be given as needed, as long as symptoms persist.

The instructions, "As needed, as long as symptoms persist," is a very dangerous thing. Cocaine in the late 19th century was a lot like that. Cocaine in small doses can aid in focus, stimulate feelings of euphoria, and assist in efficiency. Who doesn't want to be focused, happy, and productive? ALL THE TIME! Cocaine in larger doses can lead to cardiac arrest and death. Too much a good thing, I would say.

There is another good that world tries to keep secret. It is a better good than all of the artificial good that this world has to offer. However, it is a healing good. It may not feel like a good at first. It may even hurt a little as this other good flushes out the artificial good and take its place. Once the other good takes its place, the artificial good will seem less good by comparison. This good is Jesus. He is safe to take all the time, whether you think you need Him or not.

The kingdom of God is like a this. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while he sleeps and while he is awake, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not understand how. The ground produces fruit of its own accord -- first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the crop is ripe, he immediately stretches out his sickle, because the time for harvest has come. Mk 4: 26-29
