Whispers

I find there are two things I can do when the world becomes too loud. I can shout back at it and let my voice add to the chorus of chaos, or I can turn away from it and whisper to the heart of my God.

My children have bad dreams on occasion. They come to me, and I walk them back to their beds. I pray over them, and I assure them that Mother Mary and their guardian angels are watching over them. They smile in absolute trust and go back to sleep.

Last night was different. My little boy said he had the worst nightmare ever. I gave him a pocket rosary I had made for him a while back. It was just big enough to fit over his hand with a little extra in his palm. I told him that if he started to say his rosary after I left, it was okay to fall asleep in the middle because his guardian angel will finish it for him. He went back to sleep.

Jesus said to His disciples: "In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. This is how to pray: 'Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'" Matt 6: 7-13
